Who is Karen?
Karen is an Into Ultra athlete I coach, who lives with both complex regional pain and chronic pain syndromes, which affect her whole body, in particular lower spine, right leg, foot and upper left limb.
She LOVES running. “Running is my spirituality, my mental health, my life” she told me today.
Yet for her it is always painful. Lately it's been 7-8 out of 10, she often cries on runs, re-lacing her shoes countless times to try and lessen the pain.
Five cortisol injections haven’t helped and she’s been waiting years for NHS treatment.
However, there’s an opportunity of a private operation in the next few weeks. It costs £700 but her severe disability means she lives on benefits.
