My Name is Wendy Mwansa Musumbulwa (Miss). I am a 55-year-old Zambian Lady.
I was born and still live in Zambia.
In mid 2014, I suddenly started experiencing back pain. Upon going to the hospital (Progress Medical Centre, Kitwe), I was given pay medication for a few days. Unfortunately, the pain medications did not give me any relief. I later went back and was sent to undergo an MRI.
I was advised that I required surgery to rectify, Lumbar Spondylosis.
I underwent the 1st surgery in November, 2014, at Progress Medical Centre. l needed to undergo 3 other subsequent surgeries at the same hospital. I have attached a summary letter, written by Dr M. Dmytriyev, a Consultant neurosurgeon (initially, based at Fairview Hospital, Lusaka.)
Unfortunately, even after the four surgeries, all done by Doctor Dmytriyev things got worse. During this time, I started developing cyst that I did not initially have. A total of 2 cysts were removed by the same doctor.
The 4th and last surgery by Dr Dmytriyev, left me catheterized for or 2 years long years, without a proper explanation, and the pain continued even at this stage.
In 2017, because of the pain, I underwent another MRI, which revealed another cyst had developed.
I started being seen by Dr Sichizya, a neurosurgeon, based at Coptic Hospital, Lusaka, Zambia.
I needed surgery again, to remove the cyst. Surgery was done by Dr Sichizya.
I have undergone a total of 5 surgeries here in Zambia. And a further 2 In India (Bangalore).
Both surgeries in India, were to hopefully help me with the pain, by implanting a battery which has 2 terminals in my spinal cord, meant to mask the pain from reaching my brain.
Unfortunately, this too has not given me any relief.
I have had a total of 7 surgeries between 2014 and 2018. Unfortunately, l am a chronic pain patient and now dependent on pain medication. It has been an extremely difficult and of course costly.
I was advised to go back to India following the battery failure, but I have not been able to travel, due to my financial situation that has not allowed me to work or be productive any more.
All these years, I have been struggling with medical bills. My condition requires pain medication every day. I am a single mother with 2 daughters, both of them struggling to take care of me.
I am requesting any form of assistance you are able to render me with.
Currently l have been unable to seek any medical assistance and buying my own medication has been extremely difficult.
I am able to produce any other documents, related to my medical condition, you may require from me.
