Help fund Kathryn's County Council Campaign!

by Kathryn Fisher in Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, United Kingdom

Hello everyone!

Thank you for clicking on this page to find out more about our fundraising goal.

Cambridgeshire County Council elections will be held on Thursday 1st May. Kathryn Fisher is excited to stand for the Histon and Impington seat, but she needs your help to run a great campaign.

The Green Party is a people-powered and membership-based political party. This means that it doesn't rely on large donors or wealthy sponsors, instead it depends on the generosity of people who believe that positive change is possible in this country. People who believe in a green and socially just future. People like you!

We are hoping to raise £500 to help towards the cost of our campaign in the Histon and Impington division.

All money raised will be used to pay for the following:

- Our literature including leaflets to be delivered to every household in the division
- Posters
- Poster Boards
- Action Days (events during which volunteers door knock and leaflet together)

Why Kathryn:

Kathryn is deeply connected to Cambridgeshire; she was born in the Rosie Hospital, studied at Impington Village College, Hills Road Sixth Form and Cambridge University, before working locally as a landscape designer. During the pandemic she volunteered as the coordinator for Cambridge Community Kitchen and was a team leader at Waterbeach Foodbank. Cambridge is one of the most unequal and nature deprived places in the UK. These two things are intrinsically linked; we will not avoid climate collapse without reducing inequality. We must prioritise the care of those who are most vulnerable, including our growing elderly population, the disabled community and those people who are homeless or in insecure housing.

If elected, Kathryn would push for safer streets, better buses and more facilities for young people. She would advocate for the regeneration of our countryside to increase biodiversity and habitat creation. She will be a voice for young people in this division who are bearing the brunt of the mental health crisis due to climate anxiety and lack of amenity investment. She hopes to put local people and our natural world back at the heart of our communal decision making.

Kathryn is a proud feminist and will always vote on the side of women’s autonomy over their own bodies. She is an LGBTQAI+ ally and is especially passionate about protecting the trans community against violence. She will fight for the rights of minorities and those who suffer under discrimination. She is an antiracist and continues to educate herself around racial discrimination. Kathryn stays informed on difficulties facing the disabled community and cares greatly about accessibility. She opposes the genocide of the Palestinian population and the escalation into Lebanon.

Her background in architecture means that she has a keen interest in the housing crisis. She is an advocate for the creation of council housing which she believes has the potential to innovate low-cost housing design in the UK through the reintroduction of architects into local councils, giving them the opportunity to reinvent the sustainable, modern home. She would also like to see rent controls introduced so that tenants can have greater stability as well as the capacity to save for their own home.

P.S. Because we're a political party we're required to run electoral register checks from people making donations above £500, and if you donate over £1,500 during a year, we are required to inform Electoral Commission, who will make this information available on their website. All donations go to general campaigning funds.
