My family were made homeless during the recession in the early nineties. Throughout the subsequent years, worries about money and other challenges affected my mental health hugely, leading to self harm, suicide ideation and struggling with an anxiety disorder. I needed a safe adult to talk to and share my worries with. I vowed to become the person I needed when I was younger and set up a community interest organisation to support vulnerable children across my county. There are huge gaps in the support available to our young people, long waiting lists and exhausted services trying to meet a growing need.
If successful in our fundraising, the money would be used to create group work and mentoring opportunities for young people living in poverty who are not already open to statutory teams such as social services. We want to support those who might otherwise ‘fall through the gaps’. Supporting the emotional wellbeing of young people living in poverty can be life saving. Please help us in our mission to ensure ‘no child is left behind’.
