What Happened to Dot?
One beautiful September day last year, I took Dot for a walk in Wythenshawe Park, South Manchester. Dot was in her element. She was running and playing when suddenly she pulled up yelping in pain. Our joy quickly changed to horror as we saw blood gushing from her leg. She had cut her leg on a shredded beer can.
What Happened Next?
I raced Dot to the vet's where she had an operation to sew up her injured leg. To our relief, we were told it was a skin depth cut with no lasting damage. However, when Dot's bandages were removed two weeks later, her foot was misshapen and her tendons were permanently damaged. Dot now can walk only short distances without limping and can no longer run.
What's Happened Since September?
You may be wondering why we have waited since September to get treatment for Dot's damaged tendons.
First, Dot was not insured and we simply don't have the money for the new operation. Second, we have been involved in a mediation process with the vet practice as we believe there was negligence involved in her treatment. This has not been successful. Please no judgement.
Dot is now under the care of a new vet, who would like to scan Dot and operate on her damaged tendons. The approximate cost of this is £5k.
How Can You Help?
Dot is a beautiful little dog who went out one day for a walk and has never been the same again. She is limited to short toileting walks on the lead, and is mostly housebound.
If Dot has this new operation, we hope she will be able to walk for longer distances, and maybe even run pain-free again. Without this operation, she will likely face crippling arthritis as she ages, and whole leg amputation has even been suggested.
If you can, please could you donate some money? No amount is too small.
If you cannot donate, please spread the message to put litter in the bin. This could have so easily been avoided.
Thank you!
My family and I are so grateful that you have taken the time to read this far, and hope that as a community, we can help heal Dot and restore a little dog's happiness.
Loads of love from Amanda, Ross, Wilbur and Dotty ♡
