MIM HQ uses music & movement as medicine to improve health & wellbeing through education, science, cultural research & storytelling

by MIM HQ in London, Greater London, United Kingdom

Hi, I’m Emma, the founder of MIM HQ, a platform bridging music, movement, and science to make essential education accessible to all. A platform where music and movement are proven to be medicine.

My Story

This work didn’t come from nowhere; it came from my own serious health journey.

In 2019, my body completely shut down with a 'mystery illness (possible Lyme disease and environmental toxin poisoning), and we were unsure if I would ever fully recover. I was given endless treatments that made things worse, leaving me unable to walk at points and having strange seizures. After a year of intense treatment when I should of been in recovery, Covid hit.

That’s when I began researching and experiencing firsthand how music, movement, and rhythm could regulate the nervous system, release stored stress and trauma, and reconnect me to my body, which was essential after everything that had happened. By applying these principles in my own life, I did in fact make a full recovery.

But this wasn’t just about personal healing; I was uncovering something ancient and deeply powerful. As I connected the dots between these discoveries and my career in the electronic music industry, it became evident that music was more than just entertainment; it was a biological necessity, and rhythm was an integral part of our universal language.

Music and movement were always my medicine.

I knew I was creating something groundbreaking, not just another trend, but a movement revolutionising how music, movement, and dance shape health, performance, and culture, bridging ancient wisdom with modern innovation. And it has been WORK.

I created Movement is Medicine®, a method blending music, movement, and science, first introduced as a fitness class that has impacted thousands worldwide, delivering outstanding results in physical and mental health, performance, and recovery. Now, through an accredited digital training program, I’m equipping others to bring this method into their own communities.

I’m transforming all my work so far with MIM into a PhD by public works, giving the brand, methodology, and research the academic recognition it deserves, breaking down barriers and opening doors that were once closed.

Why We’re Pivoting

The demand was there, but access wasn’t; we simply didn’t have the resources or team to scale to provide more of what people were asking.

That’s why I’m pivoting to build MIM HQ, a global learning hub that makes music, movement, and science education truly accessible, no degree required.

We handle the research, break down the science, and make it practical, commercial, and enjoyable, so anyone can apply it for real-life impact.

Next Steps: Movement is Medicine → MIM HQ

The first three years of MIM were all about learning, refining what worked, understanding what people needed, and exploring how this type of education could create real change. Through real-time feedback, we saw its impact on health, creativity, productivity, and mental well-being, more than we could of ever imagined. Featured in major press, TEDx, and ITV’s This Morning, MIM became a recognised brand in the UK.

The Challenge? Traditional Investors Don’t Get It.

They want quick profits, but MIM HQ is bigger than that. We’ve proven the impact of music and movement education, but the business side of it all has completely changed the dynamics of this project and not in the right way.

That’s why we’re turning to crowdfunding, the only way to build MIM HQ as a global platform, for the people, by the people, without intense business goals, pressure and restrictions.

This is a creative project first and foremost. It was never meant to be trapped in rigid business structures; it was meant to be a space for storytelling, learning, and preserving the power of music and movement.

Alongside crowdfunding, we are also exploring innovation and creative grants that align with this vision, ensuring that MIM HQ can grow sustainably while staying true to its original purpose. (If you can help with this please get in touch).

Your support will help us bring MIM HQ back to its original purpose, creating free and low-cost education, expanding research, and ensuring this knowledge remains open, impactful, and accessible to all.

Our Initial Goal: £50,000 to Launch MIM HQ

This is just the beginning! With your support, we can build the foundations of MIM HQ, creating a free, accessible platform for music and movement education while developing expert-led courses for industries. If we surpass this goal, we can expand faster, collaborate with more experts, and create groundbreaking content that bridges ancient wisdom with modern science.

What We’re Building

🎥 A Free Digital Platform + Low-Cost Subscriptions on Substack

Music and movement education should be accessible and engaging, but right now, it isn’t. MIM HQ will be the go-to platform for learning about the science, culture, and impact of rhythm, movement, and music.

    •    YouTube: Free, high-quality educational content, interviews, and storytelling relying on public subscriptions for support. Content will also be repurposed for TikTok and Instagram to expand reach and engagement.

    •    Substack: A low-cost subscription for those who want deeper insights; case studies, research, expert discussions, and extended educational content.

🎓 Expert-Led Industry Training (B2B)

While MIM HQ remains free for public education, we’ll develop accredited CPD courses tailored for industries that need structured learning. These include corporate leaders, educators, healthcare workers, first responders, fitness instructors, mental health practitioners, and more that can implement this work into their current careers.

🎶 Live Experiences & Research in Action

MIM isn’t just a theory; it’s an experience. Our club takeovers, events, and workshops bring music and movement into real spaces, proving their power to regulate the nervous system, foster connection, and transform culture. Lack of funding has made it difficult to keep these events low-cost or free, but with your support, we can continue making them accessible to everyone.

📢 Expanding MIM HQ’s Impact

MIM HQ will be the leading digital platform for music and movement education, ensuring this knowledge reaches as many people as possible, globally. With your support, we can build a sustainable, research-backed hub that makes music and movement an integrated part of how we learn and connect.
