Trying to change a young girl's struggles and lifestyle for the better.

by Richard Namukisa in London, England, United Kingdom

Young 9 year old Anita is based in Uganda Kampala. Anita was born to a young 17 year old mother who passed away of aids when she was only 6 years old. The mother who was born in poverty had to find a way to survive because the country has no jobs for most population there. The mother came up with a business plan which was working from home, cooking food and sale it on the streets of Kampala to the Chinese workers who were laying out new roads in the city of Kampala.

When the mother of Anita started selling her food to the Chinese workers, the money was still not enough to support her. While desperate for more money, Anita's mom started selling herself to the workers on site to earn extra money. But through sleeping around with workers, she got pregnant by one of the Chinese workers. But not only did she just get pregnant, she also got infected by aids from one of the workers on site. After 6 years later when Anita was born and was 6 years old, Anita's mom died of Aids.

Anita was left without a mother, and no one knew the father at 6 years old, the Chinese workers had moved on. Unfortunately no one knew who was the father even when the Mother was still alive. She didn't know herself who was the father of the child. The truth is no one knows if the father is even still alive.

Anita is now 9 years old, she doesn't go to school and she has also been infected by aids passed on from her Mother. She was leaving with her grandmother in a small hat house on the government land in Kampala Uganda. The grandmother does not work and has no support from any charity.

Because of all the problems life is throwing at them, the grandmother has turned to alcohol. She's now alcoholic. The government wanted to take back the land Anita and her Grandmother were living on. So the council forcefully turned up with the police and demolished all the properties on the land including Anita and her Grandmother's only home. Anita and her grandmother are now homeless.

The grandmother helps out some locals with anything she can do, and in return, they give her alcohol to drink. So the 9 year old Anita sleeps on the street with no food and no home. She wakes up everyday to nothing. She's not receiving treatment for her illness either. Both Anita and her Grandmother wakeup to a day of seeking food to eat and it's nowhere to be found. So they pick food from dust bins.

After finding out the sad story of Anita and knowing my mother also got aids at young age, this situation really hit my nerve. Unfortunately my mother died of aids too. But luckily before the illness taking her life, she made sure we were in the right place where we can help and support our selves. But for young 9 year old innocent Anita, her mother has left her nothing. Anita needs support to go to school, get treatment, and also have a home to grow in.

Therefore, I kindly ask anyone who reads this to step up and help Anita in anyway you can please. Anita is only 9, So unsure of what state of life she’s in. My fears are if Anita is not helped, she will end up selling her self like her mother while so young, get pregnant too at young age. Not only that, but also pass on illness to others.
