Building a Sanctuary for South London Families

Imagine being a parent watching your child struggle with anxiety, trauma, or unmet needs in a traditional school setting. Imagine having to bring them home—not by choice, but out of a desperate need to protect their well-being. Now imagine facing that journey alone, without the guidance and support you so deeply need.

This is the reality for over 8,000 children in the UK currently out of school—and for countless families who, by necessity, turn to home education. Many feel isolated, overwhelmed, and uncertain about how to navigate these complex challenges without a lifeline.

We are here to change that.

We are HEAH: Open Routes for All Learners, a non-profit Community Interest Company with one clear mission: to build a safe, empowering space for home-educating families in South London. Our focus is supporting those navigating the complexities of EBSA (Emotionally Based School Avoidance), neurodivergence, and the lasting impact of school trauma.

My Personal Journey: From Witnessing Need to Passionate Founder

This project was born from seeing a neurodivergent child close to me struggle desperately in mainstream school, highlighting the urgent need for alternative educational pathways. With my background as a qualified social worker, educator, and personal trainer, I understood the critical importance of holistic support.

What struck me most was the profound isolation and overwhelm parents face trying to provide these alternatives—often managing everything alone, without the vital support systems they deserve.

That’s why I launched HEAH. Our approach is rooted in both lived experience and professional expertise. We’re creating a hub where families can access:

  • 💛 Trauma-informed mentoring & coaching: Guiding families through emotional complexities.
  • 📚 Personalised tutoring for children with SEND: Tailored learning that meets each child’s unique needs.
  • 🏃‍♀️ Family fitness & movement-based learning: Activities that promote well-being and growth.
  • 🧠 Parent support, advocacy & connection: A vital network for shared experiences and guidance.
  • 🥪 Free lunches for children & refreshments for parents: Practical support to nourish and welcome everyone.

This isn’t just about academics; it’s about nurturing the whole family, building resilience, and restoring confidence.

Why Your Support is Critical: Help Us Open Our Doors

As a non-profit CIC, every penny raised goes directly into making this vital vision a reality. Our immediate goal is to secure a dedicated venue that will be the heart of this work—a safe, welcoming home for families seeking connection and support beyond traditional education.

Your donation helps us open these much-needed doors:

  • £10 helps furnish shared learning spaces, making them comfortable and inspiring.
  • £25 contributes to essential utilities, ensuring family comfort within the hub.
  • £100 supports crucial setup costs and equipment for our activities.
  • £184 covers one full day of venue hire, keeping programs running.
  • £500+ moves us significantly closer to securing a full-time, accessible space for a whole year.

Together, We Can Make a Difference

No family should face the challenges of home education alone. By supporting HEAH, you’re investing in a community where families feel seen, supported, and empowered to thrive.

🙌 Every donation — big or small — brings us closer to creating this essential sanctuary for South London families. Let’s make it happen.
