Aim: We aim to raise funds to purchase a "Your Speed" sign to help drivers realize how fast they are travelling on our 20 mph street.
As we all know, speeding on Morrell Avenue is excessive, persistent and dangerous.
Speed cameras can only be installed by Thames Valley Police, but they refuse to do anything and our new Police and Crime Commissioner, Matthew Barber, has made it clear, with his generic and non-committal remarks in response to the recent severe crash at the top of the avenue, that he is not interested in helping.
The County Council is concerned, and may one day do something, but who knows when that will be and how many more awful accidents will be needed to get them to act? In short, we must take action ourselves.
We can purchase an active "Your Speed" sign to help drivers realize how fast they are travelling on our 20 mph street.
Currently over 80% of drivers are speeding, with over 10% going faster than 30 mph and some regularly hitting speeds over 50 mph. We've recorded 95 mph multiple times.
With a large "Your Speed" sign, we can get speeds down and make Morrell Avenue safer for everyone that uses it.
