The People's Recovery Project
Charity No. 1199225

£190
The People’s Recovery Project seeks to make recovery achievable and sustainable for people experiencing homelessness and addiction.
They are a grassroots charity that create pathways and support for people in this situation, to access residential treatment: co-designed and co-delivered by community members with lived experience.
● In 2023 alone, over 1400 people died while experiencing homelessness, and over a third of these deaths were related to drugs and alcohol
● Over two thirds of people who are experiencing homelessness have a drug or alcohol support need
● There's been an annual increase in recent years, of people dying from drug related causes in the UK
Why I'm running for The People's Recovery Project:
Addiction and homelessness can happen to anyone, and it is likely that many of us have or will experience addiction in our lives, either directly or through a loved one. Despite its prevalence, society's attitudes towards addiction and homelessness still lag behind.
As a journalist I have learned first-hand about the obstacles surrounding addiction and homelessness from those who are experiencing it. Addiction and homelessness are inextricably linked, and escaping their often cyclical nature is more challenging than most could imagine. The People's Recovery Project are essential in creating pathways that support individuals in achieving access to treatment and accommodation. When people are given the opportunity to access residential detox and rehab the results can be transformative.

Why donate?
I'm not much of a runner (!) and I've never ran for charity before. If you are able, any donation (great or small) will have a monumental impact in motivating me to get through it on the day, and in supporting the indispensable work of this important grassroots charity.
