by SHORTWAVES PRODUCTION in High Wycombe, England, United Kingdom

STORY

In this project it is set in the early 2000's we have Three young mixed race girls (Mutale/Marina/Aurora) who go to a hairdressers for Mutale's brother's big day. In the hairdressers they experience racism and microaggression from the hairdresser (Sue).

Outside of this we have another character which is Mutale's brother (Monolo), he experiences racism outside and handles it in a very different way with his best mate (Jacob).

Our Vision

In this film we wanted to show how men and women handle racism as mixed race people, this is a topic that is not talked about and as a production team who are all mixed race we wanted our voices to be heard. We also want to portray a sense of emotions going on through the audiences point of view, emphasising the key underlining tone of discrimination that is presented on a day to day basis. We want to give a voice to the voiceless, a face to the faceless, show a side of life that is hidden, yet once revealed, presents the pain and damage it causes to ethnic minorities both physically and mentally.

ABOUT US!

Salih Ozhot - Co - director/ DOP/ Actor

It was always my dream to act, either on stage or in front of a camera. I always aimed to mean something in the world, and to leave my mark as a good actor.

Yet my perspective had changed when we started to come together for Heritage. Instead of trying to not only be a great actor, but to also act, and deliver key problematic issues in life.

Once we started to see the vision of Hairitage, i knew i was set to bring out the best viewpoint for the audience. And so with me as the character of Monolo, Mutale's older brother, i aim to present the male side of racial discrimination and how it effects someone whom is trying his best to be a better person.

Helena Lourenco - 1st AD/ Costume/Actress

Being on stage was always part of my life since I was little. I've been part of many projects/roles while growing up which I've always felt completed while doing it.

I am looking forward to see what we come up with as our final project, this is just one more amazing experience I get to collaborate with.

Iona Hassett - Director/Writer/Actress

Ever since i was a kid i've loved being on camera and performing, i have studied acting for as long as i can remember. I want to make an impact on the industry by telling stories that are never shown.

A big part of this project for me was being able to work with people that understood what is was like to be mixed race and with this team i do.

This project was a theatre piece i had written for the Lyric Theatre in Northern Ireland and now is being adapted for screen this is one more step forward ti making a difference to a wider audience.

Gaia Duston - Producer/Actress

Why we need your help

To put it simply, we need your support to make Hairitage a reality. £1000 may seem like a lot, but in the world of filmmaking, it’s actually quite modest. Thankfully, we have access to university equipment and a crew of talented filmmaker friends, which allows us to keep costs down.

The funds we raise will primarily be used to cover key production costs, with a significant portion directed toward compensating our actors. While we're not able to offer full professional rates at this stage, we are committed to providing a meaningful token of appreciation for their invaluable contributions.

This story is deeply personal to us, as it's based on real events, and the characters we’re portraying are very close to our hearts. Casting is essential to telling this story authentically, and we want to ensure that the actors who bring these roles to life are treated with the respect and recognition they deserve.
