6We Are
Hackney Aquatics Club (HAC), an inner-city East London Swim Club that prides itself on its strong community, welfare support and the diversity of its swimmers. We have a thriving Para squad, many swimmers from black and ethnic minorities and we have a strong Masters squad with swimmers from 18 to 70 years.
HAC is an inclusive, encouraging and enjoyable competitive swim club, serving the borough of Hackney and its surrounding areas – Islington, Tower Hamlets, Newham, Waltham Forest and Haringey which have higher levels of poverty than the national average.
We believe that every person in East London should have an opportunity to swim and our access fund supports 1 in 5 swimmers each month helping them towards their training costs, travel and gala entry fees.
We also run a ‘Pay It Forward’ scheme and a monthly second-hand sale to help swimmers with the costs of club kit and equipment (and in doing so we also support recycling).
HAC has a Young Volunteers Scheme, a mentoring pathway for young swimmers to become coaches. We also offer the opportunity for young people to complete the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award scheme.
We give to our community and have successfully raised money for the North London Hospice and Homerton Hospital with our community event challenges.
Our Achievements in 2024
HAC swimmers regularly compete at County, Regional and National Level. In the last few years we have increased the number of National Qualifiers year on year, from 8 in 2022 to 21 in 2024.
The past 2 seasons have seen HAC have relay teams in the final at British Nationals for the first time, demonstrating the depth within the club.
In 2024, 5 swimmers qualified for the Olympic trials held at the London Aquatics Centre.
In the younger age groups, our 2024 M11 league team finished 2nd in the league narrowly missing out on a place in the National final.
How Your Donation Helps
Our swimmers represent one of the most diverse swim clubs in the UK: they are resilient, talented and determined. Our coaches are dedicated to keeping these relationships going but like many youth organisations, we’re struggling with the demand for our access fund.
We need our partners, funders, parents/carers and local communities to work with us. If we work together, we can make a real difference in people’s live.
Your donations help us to:
- Provide financial support to those families and swimmers struggling with the cost-of-living crisis.
- Provide support towards monthly training and travel costs and gala entry fees.
- Provide support for swimmer's equipment and bursaries towards training camps.
- Remove barriers to swimming and ensure that the swimmers in our club reflect the cultural and ethnic diversity of our borough.
Every gift, no matter the size, makes a real difference.
You can help by spreading the word on social media and asking your family, friends, and neighbours to donate. Any donation no matter how small or large will help.
Are you a local business that wants to help your local community? If so, please get in contact with us on [email protected].
Or perhaps the company you work for can give a small (or regular) donation?
What The Swimmers Are Doing To Help
Our swimmers have passion, determination and the hunger to succeed.
On the 22nd of September they will take part in our first Festival Of Swimming – 8 lanes, 8 hours and 8 activities raising money for the access fund.
