Hi, I'm Steve and this is the Gro Box Story.

For the last 12 years, we have provided fun and engaging growing activities for a host of UK primary schools, designing and running projects that not only teach children how fun it can be to grow but also help school children and communities reconnect with nature and regain lost essential life skills. I've seen for myself the joy and pride expressed, (not only my daughters), but hundreds of childrens faces, as they pulled a carrot they'd grown themselves from the soil and tasted it for the first time!!

This is why we created Gro Box. We believe everyone should experience the joy and power of growing their very own veg, herbs or flowers, whether you have a garden, a balcony or simply a window. Gro Box is more than just a product, it's a way to connect with nature, learn essential life skills and a great way to grow healthier in every sense of the word!

What is Gro Box?

Gro Box is a grow-at-home kit like no other. Everything is fully compostable and designed to make growing from seed to harvest, simple, fun and satisfying for all ages, no matter how much space you have! No mess, no fuss, just space to grow!

What's In The Box?

• The Box. Our Gro Box is a specially designed piece of structural marvel. Firstly the lid at the top turns into a tray for the bottom and the whole thing has been cleverly designed to hold 9ltrs of water just long enough for the magic to happen!
• Fabric Growing Cell. Our pots are eco-friendly, reusable AND recyclable and can be composted! They have handles for easy manouverability after planting and also have insets on each corner to enable supports for growing tall plants like Peas etc. We don't just use these pots to save the planet though, these pots have a superpower which is key to the success of anything you decide to grow in them AIR PRUNING!! Air pruning is a method of growing far superior to traditional plastic pots. If you've ever bought plants from a garden centre or grown plants yourself in plastic pots you will usually notice that when you take the plants out of the pot the roots have usually become cramp into a mass and then begin to wind their way around the pots forming a clump of roots which also makes the roots overheat. Our fabric pots allow the roots to grow naturally to the edge of the pot and then push through the pot itself. Once the roots come in contact with the air the tip of the root dies off which then promotes strong new root creation and makes the rooting system stronger, producing healthier, stronger plants.
• Seeds x 4. Gro Box doesn't just come with a single variety of seeds, we include varieties of carrots, tomatoes, peas and even radish which can be grown depending on the time of year. Each seed packet has a different colour according to how much space the seeds need to become healthy produce, just match the colour on the packet to the colour on the spacer, push your little finger in the soil to make a hole and sow your seeds!! Once all sown just pop in a lollypop stick (included) and mark your plants for future reference.
• Compost. Gro Box is supplied with around 16ltrs of compost which is enough to grow your seeds right up to harvest.
• Space to Grow Spacer. Our spacer takes the guesswork out of which seeds go where? Simply match up the colours on the packets included and sow!
• Activity and Informational QR Codes. Gro Box is backed up by our amazing companion website, giving you access to a raft of information from Advanced Growing Guides for when you want to take your growing to the next level, information on Beneficial (and not so beneficial) bugs and we even provide you with everything you need to know about making plant food from well, waste food (we call this the "circle of Health)!!!! We also have exciting new features that will be coming very soon such as vlogs, recipes and activities.

How Was Gro Box Designed?

Gro Box is unique, it's fully compostable but at the same time allows 9 litres of warm water to be poured in to allow the magic to work to then produce 16 litres of compost to spring up!  The design took 3 years to perfect and we worked in collaboration with Sheffield University but I'll let John tell you the story !!!

We're Ready. We just Need You!!

We are ready to go, we've built the prototype, tested the design and sourced sustainable materials. Now we need your help to bring Gro Box to homes, families, schools, local authorities and growers everywhere!

What's Next???

This is just the beginning. With your help we intend to;

• Expand the product lines available to include our Window Gro Box and also a much smaller Gro Box for supply to local authorities for HAF holiday activities for disadvantaged children
• Spread the word. We are a very small and unknown brand and we would love to be able to increase awareness.
• Create a CIC. We do a lot of work in Primary schools and we would eventually like to create a CIC (community interest company) that would be able to offer our products and services to local schools free of charge at point of use! we would do this by employing a tender manager as well as contributing a percentage of profit from every Gro Box sold.
• The sky is the limit
