Doing Dance Differently - The Greenwich Dance Story
With a remit extending across South East London, Greenwich Dance works to release the creativity of local people and artists and support the three-way interaction between communities, artists and the wider sector.
We are driven by five core values:
Our commitment to diversity, equality, and inclusion; knowledge exchange; reaching for the highest quality experiences; innovation by doing dance differently; and environmental responsibility.
Our full, interconnecting programme offers exciting opportunities to make, watch and take part in dance whilst addressing fundamental issues such as loneliness, isolation, social cohesion and improved physical health and wellbeing.
Led by a passionate group of professional dance artists and Artists in Residence, our dance and movement classes are a great way of unlocking personal creativity, improving health and wellbeing, and enjoying social contact with like-minded people.
Our Summer in the Park programme, curated alongside Community Creators Groups, brings professional and local performance groups together in a celebration of dance, music, food and friendship.
The season of 9 events (three Picnics and 6 Summer Session Skate Jams) takes place across five locations in Greenwich and Bexley and draws audiences from all over the borough to lesser-known gems ( Maryon Park, Queenscroft Park and Gallions Park as well as Cygnet Square and the iconic Greenwich Park) which are loved by the communities living around them.
Our performance company, GD Collective, is open to anyone over the age of 18 and tours work created by the participants across the borough – most recently touring to Warm Banks and our Picnics in the Park.
Our Dance for Wellbeing programme, with sessions running across 6 locations across Greenwich and Bexley, uses mindful movement to improve physical and mental health in an inclusive and fun environment which often ends, as every class should, with a cuppa and a natter.
Our innovative online platform ArtsUnboxed was designed to create a step change within the wider arts sector. By packing up performance and participatory projects into virtual boxes and adding them to the platform for sale, we’re giving access to venues, festivals, schools and local councils so they can recreate them in their own locality without the need for touring people, but still renumerating artists.
We also facilitate inspiring conversation between artists through our successful podcast, Talking Moves. Hosted on our Digital Stage and available wherever you get your podcasts, we invite artists to share their insights and wealth of experience with dance industry peers and the wider public.
Greenwich Dance are reimagining what it means to be a local organisation with national significance. Take a look at what we got up to last year if you don't believe us!
Help us keep South London moving!
