We need to transport horses to enable children to fulfill dreams. Through animal therapy dreams are becoming reality

by Gail briscoe in Holywell, Flintshire, United Kingdom

Who are we?

We are an animal therapy provider supporting people of all ages with additional needs, mental health problems, Dementia, Autism and Learning Disabilities.

Through our holistic therapeutic programmes and Specialist Care we wish to support Children and Adults to develop confidence, social skills, organisational skills, and communication.

We also provide work opportunities and experience. As a result of using our services  children and adults feel less isolated and feel part of the community in which they live.

Community impact

It is important to us that children are able to integrate within the equestrian environment and thrive. Children from all walks of life are suffering the impact of social isolation post covid and the cost of living crisis is only making it harder for families to attend equestrian events.
Thats where we come in, we create well rounded knowledgeable children, who can express themselves through their passion for horses. Creating friendships, learning how to communicate with peers.
The lorry is just the start of our development plans. We are actively sourcing funding to build an indoor arena and extension to our animal therapy unit, thus creating jobs within the community we live.

How will these things change the lives of clients?

Give the opportunity for clients to attend training facilities away from the farm. Attend local shows and national events further afield, when they are at an appropriate stage in their therapy.

Lloc & District RC are a local event we regularly attend. They have an understanding of people with disabilities and difficulties. They use a simple sticker on their competition back number, this lets the show officials know that the person may have difficulty communicating. Its a simple, discreet system. This helps our clients feel less pressure in a competitive environment

Why are we crowdfunding?

The project is aimed to provide therapy sessions to the service users with the experienced horses in a safe environment. Also to provide them with experience with the animals, in caring and handling the horses. If they wish to they can, with the support and guidance of our team, attend events and competitions at other venues. Many of our current clients have chosen to do this. But we really struggle with transporting all the horses needed for them, to these event. These events help the clients socialise, interact and grow their self esteem.

Over the past twelve months we have supported individuals on the Autistic Spectrum to part take in horse shows. This has had positive effects supporting people to integrate, plan, communicate and compete.

So we are looking to raise funds for our starter lorry , so I can help more children achieve their dreams through the program.

How will these things change the lives of clients?

Give the opportunity for clients to attend training facilities away from the farm. Attend local shows and national events further afield, when they are at an appropriate stage in their therapy.

A lorry would also provide a safe quiet area for clients to take themselves away when over stimulated or overwhelmed whilst at events.

I currently transport two horses with two children at a time with my personal car and a trailer. I’ve recently self funded and obtained my HGV license for the benefit of my clients. I am now looking meet the demands and give more children the opportunity to be a part of the equestrian sport and achieve their dreams.

How we’ll spend the money raised

The money we raise over the coming weeks will be used to purchase our first starter lorry in preparation for show season 2023.

The lorry will enable us to transport more horses for more children rather than taking only 2 at a time in a trailer.
It is imperative to the growth of our project and will meet the demands of children who need this service from us. All we wish for is a safe reliable lorry to give us a start.

2023 my dream is to double the amount of happy faces at the end of the season.
