Your support makes a difference
Aim: Our chaplaincy works with people of all faiths and none to offer rites of passage for the joyful and sorrowful moments along life's journey.
WHAT WE DO:
Celebrate life in weddings, naming and other ceremonies
Support those who are dying or grieving.
Ensure a persons story is told with loving integrity at their funeral ,
Visit the sick.
CAUSES WE SUPPORT:
Helping people reconnect with nature. We plant fruit trees in the inner city and encourage dialogue and experiences around food and being in nature.
Memory work with older people.
Supporting homelessness and veterans projects.
WITCHES HOUR RADIO:
Our chaplains present an hour of radio every Tuesday on Salford City Radio to share Pagan music, highlight events and promote healing and understanding as to how the "Witch wound" continues to harm people, especially women, today. For example, we covered the WASPI pension scandal, helped get answers for the family of Jaysley Beck, the young soldier driven to suicide by the sexual abuse of some of her officers, helped Interpol promote their IDentify Me cold case work that was seeking to tell the stories of women murdered over a long period of time in six countries, return their remains to their families and honour their names.
OTHER PROJECTS:
We funded the plaque at Back Pool Fold in Manchester, commemorating the women who were tortured on a ducking stool there in medieval times for standing up to authority of husband, church or civic authorities. We also present Witches Hour on Salford City Radio, which as well as playing pagan music and remembering women accused as witches historically, explores the ways that the witch wound still harms women today - such as the women's pension scandal, or how courts respond to crimes against women.
We come together to facilitate gatherings around issues such as child loss, the importance of animals in our lives and other important aspects of life's journey.
GENERAL:
Though we appreciate the orchard of faith, that provides a variety of fruits for life's nourishment, it is our belief that even grief can be lifted when we remember someone with love, integrity and humour rather than in one size fits all religious language.
In short, we seek a more empathetic, kinder way to supporting people along the journey of life.
