Hello, I'm Graham. Some of you reading this may or may not know me. Today, I am a professional gardener, but it hasn't always been that way.
I was once a professional artist and photographer. After numerous attempts to study photography, I completed my full-time studies and earned an HND in Photography, what seems like many moons ago.
I cherished every moment of my studies, creating stunning images from various genres—artistically, in fashion, family, and commercial photoshoots. I learned the craft from "old-fashioned" film development to modern digital techniques.
Primarily drawing from my studies as an artist, I achieved an "A" at GCSE and a "Distinction" at GNVQ Advanced level with the help of amazing tutors. Simultaneously, I studied A-level photography, producing remarkable images on 35mm, medium format, and large format film. Unfortunately, this journey was cut short when a cleaner mistakenly discarded the contents of my college locker over the summer break, erasing every single negative I had ever created—an instant loss akin to formatting your hard drive.
Begrudgingly, I gave up my studies in photography due to the challenges of catching up while studying full-time and working as a poor student.
I parked photography as a career for many years. Later in life, the opportunity arose for me to study again, this time as a mature student. I seized it, dedicating three years to become educated as a "professional" photographer.
I gained valuable knowledge from talented tutors and peers, some of whom amazed me with their creations. This motivation led me to pursue creating stunning images for a living. Taking my portfolio to the Princes Trust, I became the first photographer they granted funds to, opening a photography studio with support from friends and family. Despite producing remarkable work, the 2008 recession hit ten months after the studio's opening, forcing me to return the keys and face homelessness.
Struggling for months, I tried everything to save the dream, even living in the studio. Eventually, I had to give up, and the heart was ripped out of photography for me. Turning to gardening as a more stable livelihood, I've built a successful business supporting my family and others. However, funds are tight, and I lack the resources to invest in my art.
Now, free from relying on photography for the bulk of my income, my passion has rekindled. However, my aging camera limits my creative expression. Seeking to fund a return to photography, I'm asking for support in exchange for prints or photoshoots.
I hope to get 15 backers at £150 each, offering a one-hour photoshoot with 5, 10x8 prints, and 20 digital printable images.
Or £75 for a 30 min photoshoot & 2 10x8 prints
With other options available.
Small donations are also welcomed to help meet my target and replace my camera in exchange for prints from a gallery of images.
Additionally, I plan to recreate a website to display my works, with pledges acknowledged. Your support would mean a lot as I embark on this exciting journey back into creating. If you can't contribute, please consider sharing to help reignite my creative flame.
With love and thanks,
Graham
