Appeal for Financial Support to undergo Bilateral Knee Replacement surgery in India by January 2025 For Grace Kauma (Karimi’s Mum)

Appeal for Financial  Support to undergo Bilateral Knee Replacement surgery in India by January 2025

Dear Friends,

I hope this message finds you well. I am writing to share my current health situation and seek your support during this challenging time. For over a decade, I have been living with progressive osteoarthritis in both knees, which has significantly impacted my mobility and overall quality of life.

Medical Diagnosis:

In August of this year, due to worsening pain, I was diagnosed with meniscus tears in both knees. An MRI scan revealed a parameniscal cyst in the right knee that is also causing  severe pain and swelling. As a result of these conditions, I face daily challenges with walking and engaging in physical activities, which further affects my health and well-being. After thorough consultations and evaluations, my doctor has recommended a referral for bilateral knee replacement surgery. This procedure is crucial in alleviating my pain and preventing further disability.

Identified Surgeon & Hospital details:

After researching the best experts in joint surgery, I found that India offers some of the finest treatment options available. We have spoken to several orthopedic surgeons and identified Dr. Abhay Kulkarni at Sahyadri Super Specialist Hospital in Pune as a highly reputable surgeon for this procedure. We have been engaging with him for over a month now and I am hoping to proceed with the surgery in January 2025.

Prognosis & ongoing recovery support:

The success rate for this surgery in 99% and given my age and medical background, it is recommended that the duration of stay in India is at least 6 weeks. At discharge, I will hopefully be able to ‘walk’ with an aid (walker). We will continue physiotherapy in Kenya until I regain full mobility, hopefully within 3-6 months.

Karimi will accompany me for first 3 weeks but due to her work and young family we are also planning for another close family member to  attend as a guardian.

We pray everything will go to Gods plan and call upon you prayers as we continue to plan and put finances together for the surgery.

Financial Requirements

The total estimated budget to cover hospital costs, surgery, implants, physiotherapy, and post-operative consultations, travel and accommodation and other incidentals, amounts to £15k. Having put in part of the required  amount (£5K) kindly request your support to fundraise towards the remaining amount with a target of £10K.

Kind appeal for donations:

Given the substantial financial burden, I am reaching out to you, my trusted circle of friends and family, to appeal for support in meeting the cost of this urgent treatment. Any contribution, no matter how small, would be immensely appreciated and would bring me one step closer to regaining my mobility and improving my quality of life.

Thank you for considering my appeal, and for your ongoing prayers, support and encouragement.

Have a blessed Christmas!

With much love,

Grace Kauma and family
