Govan Community Project provides a range of holistic support to New Scots including advice, food support and community activities which reduce isolation and improve health and wellbeing.
Individuals in the asylum process are expected to live on just over £5 per day. With a day bus ticket costing £5 in Glasgow, families are forced to make daily survival choices between food, clothing, attending appointments and supporting their families health.
£5 could provide a daily bus ticket for someone to enable them to travel to an appointment, access food support , attend an English class or to meet with a friend or a support group to reduce their isolation
£10 could provide a monthly food pantry membership for a family, supporting those facing food insecurity to have more choice and dignity over the food they receive
£20 could provide an emergency supermarket voucher for someone who is destitute to enable them to buy food, or top up their mobile phone to access support or stay connected with loved ones
£40 could pay for childcare to ensure those with young children can still access an ESOL class or a group activity
£60 could pay for interpreting support for an individual to receive informed advice on their rights and entitlements in a language they understand
£100 could help pay for a smartphone to support individuals who are digitally excluded
£200 could help pay to train a group of volunteers
£500 could help organise an outing to allow a group of our community members to visit other parts of the city/country to learn more about their new home
£1000 could cover the cost of a 12 week block of English classes for 12 students, including travel costs
