About “God’s Big Balls”
Annabelle Winter has longed for love for as long as she can remember, the love, the wedding, the family - it’s all she’s ever wanted. And then she meets Finneas Finch, the quirky, aspiring musician stud who swept her off her feet in their local pub, and Annabelle thinks she has it all.
It’s only four months into their love that the news breaks that an astroid the same size as earth will soon collide with their world, bringing all life on earth to a complete end. As the time ticks down until their love and lives diminish, they rush to create the lives they wish they could have forever.
About Me: Dan James
My name is Dan James and I am 21. Growing up, I was always engrossed in a book - typically a young adult novel. It has been my dream to see a book on a bookstore shelf with my name on, it’s been an even bigger dream to have an audience of people reading my book and loving it. There’s something so magical about a random person resonating with the words you’ve put on paper, and it’s something I truly long for.
I live in Devon, UK and have done for most of my life. In 2022, I moved to Bristol to pursue a career in Cabin Crew and on the planes, the crew get a lot of time to sit around and talk about random things - some of these conversations have left space for many other future stories, just not this one.
Behind “God’s Big Balls”
The idea for God’s Big Balls came about when I was on a family holiday, my family and I were talking about asteroids and how if we think the world will ever end, and what would it look like for us? Almost immediately, I’d thought of this idea for a love story: what if the world was ending, but you’d just found the love of your life?
I was laying in my sun bed in Magaluf, tapping away at my phone creating a book cover for the idea. “God’s Big Balls” was meant to be a joke, but when I really thought about it - the earth (and all planets) and asteroids - to some people God created this world, so why can’t planets and asteroids be his toys? It’s a play on words that I liked, so I kept it - it also notes to the humorous sense that’s in the book.
The book cover was the first thing to be created - again for a bit of fun and boredom on holiday, and I sat with it for a while; occasionally looking at it. And then one day I decided to give it a go, and here we are.
Why I’m asking for your money
It’s cheeky, I know. There are people on this platform and other crowdfunding platforms that are medically in need for your help, so the fact that you are reading this… I appreciate it a lot.
My dream is to have God’s Big Balls traditionally published. I would love for people to walk into Waterstones/Barnes and Noble/Local Bookshops, and see my book and (biased I know) the wonderful world inside of it. I am so incredibly passionate about this project that I want every chance to get it right.
I am no expert, not every author is, every book you see has had an editor - or two or three. These people aren’t cheap (and rightly so for their hard work). God’s Big Balls would need to be seen be a developmental editor and a copy and line editor. And then would need to be proofread. The main portion of these funds will go directly to this.
Another portion of the funds will go to promotions. Any book will be struggling to find readers without a promotion scheme set up, the price to have it featured on radio, podcasts and written in blogs is within this budget. Of course, the promotional aspect is primarily there if I have to go down the self-publishing route, if I am lucky enough to be seen by a traditional publisher, these funds will go towards more extensive editing and more Advanced Reader Copies for when the book is ready to be sent out for people to review.
Conclusion
I thank you for taking the time to look at my fundraiser. Together, I hope we make something magical. I am indebted to give back to whoever donates, so please so more for the rewards.
Please note: I am not profiting from this, every penny will be going towards this project, and anything that is left behind will be put towards a future publication OR donated to a creative charity.
