- I have in the past 29 years of work life been in various fields like Insurance, IT and retail and am currently working as a management personnel for a large MNC which by its global presence has been working for the betterment of the people around the world. In my daily work life, I have witnessed stocks being transported from warehouse to stores and similarly carry trade waste from stores back to depot for sorting. One common thing which was a cause for botheration is the way they were hauled about i.e., in cages wrapped around in shrink wrap which is a plastic landfill and approximately about 15 to 20 metres of plastic is used for wrapping one cage. Daily a stores receive about 15 to 20 cages, with bigger stores having double the quantity and likewise the wastage would be around 3 to 4 cages wrapped in plastic. This thought kept bothering me and I felt I should do something to stop using this plastic which are a non biodegradable waste and also leaves behind a greater carbon footprint during production and recycling, not to mention the cost involved.
Finally, an idea came to my mind which is not only economical for the businesses as the solution to the problem is not a single use product and so can save money in the long run, but also at the same time environment friendly as it means not having to use shrink wraps anymore thereby avoiding unnecessary landfill plastic.
The design I came up with has taken into account various factors :-
1) Feasibility :- I have looked into thoroughly if this concept can materialise from an idea into a product and ensured if the byproducts that go into making my final product are sustainable.
2) Cost efficient:- The businesses that rely on the current method of haulage are having to incur repetitive cost on a monthly basis which is a drain on their profits as they add up to expenses, whereas the product I designed will incur the one off cost which will save the businesses millions of pounds in the long run. This answers why this product will be a success story.
3) Availability:- The layout of the product remains the same but can be made available in different sizes to cater to the requirements of customers, adding a touch of flexibility to make this product versatile, as cages come in different sizes.
4) Practical Application:- I have designed the product keeping in mind what the work demands with respect to accessibility without compromising on the safety of the workers involved.
Lastly, I have taken into account the usability factor to suit for all seasons and also considered making provision to prevent the stocks transported from water damage during rainy season and also keeping a tab on the weight of my product so as to not add up to the already heavy cages during transit.
I am an individual with limited means and have enquired with businesses that can make my idea into a tangible product and this company which has an online presence as www.innovate-design.co.uk has helped many innovators turn their ideas into reality and after looking into the purpose and potential outcome of the idea have considered it a project worthy of investment, but for a price as they have to factor the cost of time, material and labour . They have split the concept realisation into three stages before the product hits the market viz.,
The research stage
The conception and visualisation stage
The production and marketing stage.
I seek to raise funds for the first two stages as I am certain the finished product will speak for itself as it involves saving the planet , and will attract investors once orders start coming in.
Together we can make a difference in this world. Let's make this world a better place. By contributing to this cause, you can sleep peacefully knowing you have contributed to saving our planet and is a step taken in the right direction.
We must act before it is too late, join me in this campaign and keep in touch for updates on the outcome.
After the completion of second stage in my project, you will come to know about the strategy involved and what my product looks like as until then I have to withhold details, for the product awaits patent research process.
