At the beginning of December 2020, our first cohort of women who took part in our Gender Development Program completed a three months sewing skill course in the Chirag Din Women Welfare Centre in 17 MariaKhial, village of Mianwali, Punjab Pakistan.
The women were delighted to receive recognition for the skills they had learned in past months and expressed keeness to take their personal development to the next stage to be able to provide for their families.
The Guardian reports that according to the United Nations women are disproportionately impacted by Covid-19. This is most noticeable in the developing world where women are at double disadvantage due to their gender, social structure and financial dependency.
Global Minorities Alliance took up the task of addressing the issue of gender disparity by starting a Gender Development Program in Pakistan. The Chirag Din Welfare Centre is run by women and for women with the support from GMA. The project provides village women a safe space for skill development and aims to provide a social, emotional, and financial capital for the local women.
After the successful launch of the sewing course, village women are keen to continue the second phase of the project. More than dozen women have already signed up to receive further training.
Your donation will make a radical difference in the lives of the village women. It will enable GMA to take the project to the next level.
Thank you.
