The Glenorchy Job Café (formerly known as 'Work Club') has been evolving since we started in 2011. In that time we have helped over 1,500 clients with finding employment, winning a national award back in 2014. Recently, post Covid, our emphasis has been as much on personal support (a warm friendly space) as direct job searching, hence the change of name in 2022.
We open in Glenorchy church hall in central Exmouth every Thursday morning with 2 trained Advisers and 2 support helpers (all volunteers) plus our part-time paid Co-ordinator, who has many years' experience in such work. This fresh approach retains the specialism of effective job-seaching (producing good CVs, searching on-line with clients, advising on training etc.) while also adapting to deal with and support some clients who initially 'just want to talk'.
We are well-known in the town with encouragement from our MP, Mayor and local authority as well as other community groups and projects. We opened in part because the town's Job Centre had closed and retain good, professional relations with the Exeter Job Centre Plus staff.
Most years we run our own 'Job Fair' with local employers and agencies
