Help Give a Healthy Smile to children in some of our most deprived communities.
Tooth decay is almost entirely preventable, yet NHS figures reveal that, in England alone, almost 42,911 children were admitted to hospital for a general anaesthetic to remove teeth unable to be saved – that is 170 children every day!
Tooth decay is the single largest reason why children aged between five and nine are admitted to hospital.
It costs £10 to fund a programme of daily supervised tooth brushing and toothbrushing kit to help a child gain good oral health habits that last a lifetime. Through supporting our Give a Healthy Smile appeal, we can buy more toothbrushes and fund more toothbrushing programmes in pre-school nurseries and primary schools.
This basic but vital work receives little or no state funding and helps to give children a better start in life.
Even today, in the UK, there are households where children do not own a toothbrush and do not know how to brush their teeth, sometimes we encounter children as old as five who have never brushed their teeth.
Sadly, the end result is that children find themselves in pain through severe dental decay and require extensive treatment, including removing of multiple teeth under a general anaesthetic.
To celebrate the Employee Owned Association (EOA) at 40, the EOA and CDS CiC want employee owned businesses to come together behind a common goal that leaves a legacy – help us to raise £40,000 to fund toothbrushing packs for 4,000 children in the UK.
Linking in with EOA40 and the EO Day 2019 theme of ‘what makes you smile about EO’ - please help the EOA and CDS fund more supervised toothbrushing for children in greatest need.
