Aim: To provide a community screening of 'An Army of Women' - the landmark story of women fighting to hold law enforcement accountable in Texas.

Girlhood Reclaimed is a not-for-profit organisation based in Bristol which aims to disrupt the growing dominance of misogynistic narratives through feminist research, awareness training, and safe spaces for young women, girls and non-binary folk to make sense of their experiences and reclaim joy in their girlhood.

One of our main aims is to explore and deepen our understanding of the impacts of misogyny on young people through feminist research, project-based work and training. We believe that sense-making spaces and engagement with the reclaiming of joy supports young people in undoing some of the harm caused by these dominant narratives as well as empower them to engage with feminist activism.

In our debut year we are running pilot projects in schools, and training professionals working with girls and non-binary children in schools and the community.

Having watched the inspiring film 'An Army of Women' when it recently debuted at the Watershed, the Girlhood Reclaimed team wish to bring this important documentary to the local community, sparking vital conversations around misogyny and sexual violence, themes of justice including criminal justice, and the joy found in feminist activism.

The film follows lawyers and plaintiffs in a class-action lawsuit over the course of four years. Amongst them are plaintiff Marina Garrett, who was raped by a stranger in a parking garage, and plaintiff Hanna Senko, who was date raped by an acquaintance. Both women's cases were dismissed by law enforcement. The film chronicles the group's journey as they sue the Austin Police Department and Travis County District Attorney's Office, ultimately ending in a historic settlement that forced police and prosecutors to change how they handle the crime of sexual assault.

Help us to raise the screening fee of £372, allowing us to sell low-cost tickets to cover the venue and equipment hire.

Donors who pledge £10 or more to this crowdfunder recieve a free soft drink and popcorn at the screening .

We must raise the cost of the film by 17th June. Please note, tickets for the screening will go live on 17th of June once the screening fee is secured.

The screening will be held at Easton Community Centre on Tuesday 22nd July from 7pm.

The screening will be followed by a panel discussion around the key themes.
