Hi! I'm Tom, an actor & writer from London with a show called 'Getting to Iona' about St Columba of Iona (an Irish monk who lived in the 500s AD), and leaving home for the unknown.
The show is an adaption of the book 'Joyful Pilgrimage' by John Barry, my grandfather, who was involved in the 1963 voyage of the so-called Iona Curragh, itself a recreation of St. Columba's journey in 563 AD.
'Getting to Iona' will premiere this June at St. Columba's Church, Pont St in London (booking link below). Then it will be performed in July at St. Columba's in York, and in August at St Columba's-by-the-Castle in Edinburgh.
The dates are set and the show will go on! My hope for this fundraiser is to cover the essential costs of the church venues who are generously supporting the development and realisation of this project, as well as my transport costs from my home in London, and a small marketing budget. The success of this show will depend largely on word-of-mouth. Any & all profits resulting from the performances will go to the churches where they take place.
Thank you so much for reading about 'Getting to Iona'! It is a passion project close to my heart, a whole-hearted labour of love. I hope you can come and see it, I can't wait to share it with you!
