Thankyou for showing an interest in donating to Get Me Out The Four Walls.
This is a new voluntary organisation that has just been set up. I decided to set this charity up after suffering from post natal depression after the birth of my twins and realising that there was a real lack of local services and help available for mums with PND in Norfolk.
I have decided to change this and have setup a Facebook page called Get Me Out The Four Walls that gets parents in Norfolk out the house and meeting others which I believe helps alleviate and prevent PND. This now has nearly 500 members. I organise meets around Norfolk for parents to attend and am now in the process of getting volunteers to help me so that we can increase the number of meets available to parents and meet the current demand.
I also recognised the real need for a PND support group in Norfolk so I have recently set up Norfolks only support group which meets monthly in Norwich.
My passion for wanting to help other mothers has now led to me starting up my voluntary organisation. The NHS waiting time in Norfolk for counselling is currently 3 months which for someone that is desperate for help is too long. I want to change this and I am looking to fundraise to raise money to pay for private block session counselling for mums that are referred to the organisation from their doctors as an urgent case. I am also working with a local acupuncturist to offer block session acupuncture to mothers should they prefer a different approach to their treatment.
This now leads me on to my start up fund that I am trying to raise money for. I am looking to raise £1000 so that I can get the organisation off the ground in the following ways:
- Get leaflets produced that can be put in doctors surgeries and bounty packs of mothers in North Norfolk firstly. Pointing them in the direction of GMOTFW and the PND Support Group should they need it. I also want to give a supply of these to Health Visitors to hand out to the mothers they meet post natally.
- Get some posters printed that can be put up in local Surestart Centres and doctors surgeries
- Money to purchase a pay as you go phone that I can use for people to contact me. This is essential for when I do the meets so that mums can let me know if they are running late etc
- I am running a community cafe from Saturday 18th June every Saturday until the 27th August which I have teamed up with ADD Norfolk (an ADHD Charity) to deliver. This means that the costs to deliver it are halved which for us now is essential. We will be buying in and selling on cake and drinks that we can sell onto the public at a profit to help raise money for both charities
- Finally we would really love to get a pot of money together so that we can start receiving the referrals from the GP's in the area and start treating some of the mothers that are in desperate need. To give you some idea, £200 will fund a block session of counselling for one mum or acupuncture treatment for 2 mums to help get her life back on track.
I am not asking for people to pledge lots of money. Lets be honest life is expensive in general but anything will make a difference and I promise to keep you all in the loop with what your money is doing and how many people we are helping.
Thankyou so much for sharing my vision too and wanting to make a change. Working together we can achieve this and make a real difference to mums lives. PND affects the whole family not just the mother so we are helping the whole family have a happier and better life in our wonderful county of Norfolk.
Thank You
Naomi
