At Lakota Hub CIC there are four managing directors all with life experience. We also have eight volunteers that form our steering group. Our project will benefit our diverse range of community members including people of all ages, backgrounds and abilities who have a shared interest in art and community engagement.
In the Stockton area we are aware that many people live alone, which is why we are aiming to tackle loneliness in the local area by bringing people together at Lakota. We understand that loneliness can put people at risk for developing a range of physical and mental illnesses, including heart disease, high blood pressure, cancer, diabetes, memory loss and depression. People who engage in mentally stimulating activities, such as arts and crafts, are more resilient to symptoms of Alzheimer's and other cognitive declines.
There are a lot of people who are struggling financially. We can provide a warm place and a warm meal for them to help and support people in our area.
