Help us say goodbye

Aim: This week our kitty Gengar was in a horrific hit & run and we were unable to save him. We can’t say goodbye because of the giant vet bill

Last year me and Ollie met and fell in love with two crazy little feral kitty brothers who we saved and took in, Gengar and Blue.

Gengar was the quiet shy one, taking forever to warm up to people but when he did he was inseparable. He lived by my side all day and while he loved to explore the garden, never left it. He hated Ollie at first because of his loud craziness but soon the hissing stopped and he would come for strokes and snacks and always be in his room to say goodnight.

This Tuesday, Gengar went out the garden…we went looking and no luck whatsoever. Figured he would do as his brother does and be back in the night or next morning. 

Wednesday morning i get a call from the vets answering excited thinking someone handed him in and he was coming home…….completely the opposite.
Someone had witnessed him being hit and run by a black 4x4 and taken him into the local vets. They told me he had facial injuries and if they should try to resuscitate if anything happens while i am on my way. They didn’t share the horror i would actually walk into.

Gengar was hit so hard that his jaw was broken, one of his eyes was completely popped out of his head, the other badly damaged. I could barely look without losing it. That was just the visible damage. If he was hit that hard then clearly there would be more internal and he most likely wouldn’t make it or would be blind and potentially unable to eat for the rest of his life. It was one of the hardest decisions in my life. He knew i was there because he purred and cuddled into my arms as it happened.

Letting him go has left us with a £140 vet bill and £220 in cremation fees which i can’t afford to do and we can’t say goodbye and put him to rest without paying those off.

I hate to make one of these, i’m EMBARRASSED to make one of these. I’m someone who takes pride paying everything themself, asking for no help and being strong but right now…i’m not.

If you can, please help us get Gengars remains home so we can say goodbye.
He was my best friend, my emotional support and my biggest help managing my agoraphobia and PTSD. I’m completely lost right now.

UPDATE: Thanks to everyone who has helped, half the bill is now paid and the other half is due to be paid next week. Will post the last photo evidence then 💜
