Why we need your help
The General Election is really close (Thursday 4th July). We want to ensure that everyone who wants to can vote Green and to reach people with our positive message of real hope and real change.
We urgently need to raise a deposit of £500 by Thursday 7th June in order for our Green Party candidate to stand on the ballot paper in the Winchester constituency.
We also need to raise money for election expenses and campaign literature to keep the momentum of our recent successes going. Our campaign fund has been stretched by the recent unexpected expenditure for the County Council by-election in Meon Valley which we fought and won.
Our Candidate
We have selected Lorraine Estelle Abraham as our wonderful Green Party candidate for the Winchester constituency in the General Election.
Lorraine said, “I am honoured to have been chosen as the Green Party’s candidate for Winchester. In recent years, more and more people have realised that far from being just about the environment, the Green Party stands for a way of doing politics differently and for pragmatic, proven policies that can transform our country – and that Green Party politicians can be trusted to have the integrity people expect.”
“It’s clear for everyone to see that our country is in a total mess: politics as usual hasn’t worked – we need a new approach for real hope and real change. That’s why the Green Party has grown so rapidly. Since Malcolm Wallace was elected as our first Green Party Councillor in the Winchester District, we have doubled the number of councillors year on year, including the first councillor seat at Hampshire County Council only a few weeks ago.”
“Addressing the cost-of-living crisis also means rapid action to tackle both the climate and nature emergencies. Tackling these crises together will make local residents and businesses better off. Our plan for a new UK law to address the full extent of the climate and nature crises, in line with the most up-to-date science, will be front and centre of our policies. Harmony is needed between the social, environmental and economic triple challenges to build a much fairer Britain. These three essentials must be taken forward together.
Lorraine lives in Winchester at the heart of the constituency. She is a volunteer guide, showcasing the beauty and history of our cathedral to visitors.
In 2022, she was honoured with the prestigious “Contributions to Scholarly Publishing” award, recognizing her successful career and accomplishments. Her most recent work involved collaborating with libraries in developing and transitioning economies, facilitating access to knowledge for education, learning, and research, and promoting sustainable community development.
Did you know?
Greens are on the up here. We now have three Green district councillors (Danny Lee, Suzanne White and Malcolm Wallace - pictured here) and Malcolm was also elected as our first Green County councillor in May. The Meon Valley has swung from Blue to Green and our Green candidates, Lorraine Estelle (pictured below) and Giles Gooding came second place in two Winchester City wards. We want to build on these
successes.
A Green Vote is not a Wasted Vote! Every single Green vote we receive raises around £1.00 in so called "short money" provided by Westminster to fund the offices of MP's. We are hoping to get 4 Green MP's elected to parliament this time and all our votes will help to fund their work.
The Green Party don’t have the big business backing of the establishment parties. Our ability to stand candidates in elections and to reach people with our positive message of real hope and real change are powered by the kindness and generosity of members and supporters like you.
So, please donate what you can now.
Thank you for your support.

Co Chair - Winchester District Green Party
Please note; If we achieve more than 5% of the vote in the General Election in the Winchester constituency, we will get to keep our £500 deposit. This money would then be added to the Winchester District Green Party campaign fund and used for essential election expenses.
