We urgently need your help please.
Our HQ is under threat of closure due to its current state of repair. It is a wooden modular building that was donated to us 50 years ago, it was already 30+ years old when we were given it.
In October 2022 the council agreed to give us a new 50 year lease. Our legal team and the council's legal team are drawing up the new lease and we hope to sign it very soon.
In 2018 we started fundraising for a new HQ and too date we have raised just over £65k. We have an architect drawing up new plans to be submitted to planning very soon. We have had meetings with the planning department and they say they are happy with our plans. However we need to raise another £100k to get the building constructed.
We have been providing our groups in our local community for over 50 years now. During our group sessions our young people are able to take part in 100's of challenge badges. We are able to teach our young people life skills that they will be able to use for the rest of their lives. some of the badges are completed in their groups and others they can complete at home. Some of the challenge badges cover things like: first aid, road safety, mental health, DIY, camping, art/craft, cooking, growing veg, environment, wildlife, recycling, basic electrics, looking after a pet, communication, taking part in a specific sport, things that happen around the world and 100's more. We give our young people the chance to do things that they have never done before.
As at Sept 2023 - we are currently running the following groups:
Rainbows - 19 young people, 4 volunteer leaders and 1 volunteer young leader
Beavers - 26 young people, 4 volunteer leaders and 1 volunteer young leader
Brownies x 2 groups - 18 young people, 7 volunteer leaders and 1 young leader
Cubs - 19 young people and 3 volunteer leaders
Guides - 20 young people and 3 volunteer leaders
Scouts - 11 young people and 2 volunteer leaders
As we have been involved in our local community for such a long time, we have children attending our groups now, whose parents and grandparents previously attended our groups. We have young people who have gone on to become leaders themselves.
We are a fully inclusive group and have young people and volunteers from a wide variety of diverse backgrounds attending our groups. We are able to teach our young people new life skills that they can take with them through the rest of their lives. Our volunteers also take our young people on hikes and camps. For some of our young people this will be the first time that they have ever been away from their parents.
We also take our young people out in to the community to support other local groups and charities. Here are a few examples:
- Singing carols to residents at a local home for the elderly
- Taking part in our local annual remembrance parade
- Helping at Fawley Village Christmas Fayre
- Supporting Waterside Christmas Appeal
- Supporting the annual Hovercraft event
- Providing events at our HQ for the local community to attend
We are desperate to raise the rest of the money that we need to build our new HQ so that we can continue supporting our local community for many more years to come.
