Dear Important Supporters and Donors,
I'm in Primary 7 at St Anthony's School in Rutherglen, Scotland. The 2024/2025 school year is my last there before I move to high school.
I was sitting in Mharsanta Restaurant in Glasgow with my family when I came up with the idea to climb Ben Nevis to help raise money for my school. (And it was there that my Dad said he'd climb with me, right away.)
Ben Nevis is the tallest mountain in the UK, and I know it will be a challenge!
I came up with this idea because our school organises an Outdoor Residential Camp for Primary 7 students to attend, and it's expensive. We have to fundraise the whole year for it - every incoming P7 class does.
And I want to do something big to make a difference - not just to help my year, but for the whole school when it's their turn to go on a Residential. So, any additional funds raised will go towards future planning of Residentials for P6s, P5s, P4s, P3s, P2s, and P1s at St Anthony's Primary School!
I know it won’t be easy, but I’m ready to train and give it my best shot. Climbing to the top would prove that kids can do amazing things if we work hard and believe in ourselves. (I might even earn a new Scouting badge, too.)
Please sponsor me and help support our school - every donation, small and large, will help!
Thank you for your prayers, good wishes, and support,
Gabriel
FAQs
When is the big climb?
We're aiming somewhere between 16-19 October, before the bad weather hits. It's Scotland, so we won't be put off by a wee bit of rain!
Is this for, like, the Scottish version of 5th Grade Camp?
In Michigan, where my Mom is from, there's something called "Fifth Grade Camp," and in Scotland, where I live, we call it "Residential Outdoor Education" - so I suppose it's like "Sixth Grade Camp" if my American friends and family want an equivalent.
Can I donate in another currency?
Yes, you can donate in USD or another currency; it will seamlessly be converted into British Pounds.
How tall is Ben Nevis?
Ben Nevis is 1345 metres (that’s 4,413 feet for our North American friends and family). From what I've researched, a Ben Nevis hike can take anywhere from 5 to 10 hours to complete!
