Baby Dog Films is an award winning UK indie film company, making brave choices and bold moves.
Established in 2019, Baby Dog Films brings together renowned film and Off Broadway theatre writer and director, Karlton Parris, with established producer, Wendy Jones. “Funeral Food” will be our third feature film.
SYNOPSIS
Set in the 1980s and filmed entirely on location in New York and Athens Georgia, “Funeral Food” is best described as a searing family drama, interlaced with plenty of dark comedic moments.
Martha Lord and her eldest son, Marlow, return home from the funeral of her youngest son, Dallas. Martha is feeling "cloudy", her term for vengeful and downright nasty. Her sister, Dora May, is fixing the cocktails whilst Dora May's granddaughter, Pearl Louise, has fled to the sanctuary of her bedroom. Matters take a comedic turn when eldest sister, Laverne, arrives having missed the funeral.
Martha is spoiling for a fight. First with her uptight (Martha's word for emotionally crippled) son, Marlow, a fifty year old man, sadly all too familiar with his mother's rampages. And secondly, with Dora May, who is the only person in the notorious Lord family to stand her ground with the force of nature that is Martha.
WHY YOU SHOULD SUPPORT US, AND HOW YOU CAN
“Funeral Food” is unique example of a great story that needs a voice. We’ve done the hard bit, we’ve landed the incredible cast, established an amazing film crew, and we’ve sourced the stunning New York and Athens, Georgia, locations.
We now just need your help to make it the highest quality final product possible to ensure that this inspirational and encouraging story can reach audiences near and far, and of all backgrounds and cultures.
Your support will secure the rest of our locations and shoot dates (we have 5 days planned in early 2024 that need to be funded), also to pay the cast and crew a reasonable wage, pay for post-production and pay for festival submissions, cinema screenings, and distribution.
THINGS WE HAVE GOING SO FAR:
An award winning script, placing in some of the world’s most prestigious film festivals, and a director with years of experience telling LGBTQ stories. Hence, we have had high pre-production values and a lot of time to figure and explore how the story could work on screen.
We’ve formed a skilled, professional crew from around the USA, with each member bringing a wealth of experience, enthusiasm and passion to the film. Our cast have been selected from the crème de la crème of USA talent, from New York, Los Angeles, Nashville and Athens
