I am a 30-something-year-old autistic, trans non-binary, queer based in the UK. Trying to raise funds for private therapy to address and treat trauma and to ease symptoms of C-PTSD, PTSD, depression, and anxiety.
I have not been able to hold down a job in my entire adult life due to my mental health and my autism and so I am surviving off unemployment and disability benefits, including PIP. I have been signed off long term from working due to not being well enough.
Why Go Private?
Frankly, the NHS is broken. It severely underfunded, understaffed, and the vast majority of clinicians and allied health professionals I've encountered have no understanding and transness or autism. I have been in and around the system for years, had multiple rounds of CBT and higher intensity therapy, tried all the antidepressants the GP can try. I have been treated extremely poorly by the mental health service where I am to the point I'm considering making a formal complaint. I want to live, I want to get better. But in order to do that I need someone that will actually listen to me. Going private will enable me to hand pick an appropriate therapist that can sympathise, understand, and listen.
Why That Amount?
I do not yet have a therapist confirmed. From what I've found so far in my search, prices generally range from £60 to £100+ per session. I don't know how many sessions I expect to have, but it's going to be a lot. £2000 is an amount to put in the required box here that would give me a solid amount of sessions.
Due to being on disability benefits I am extremely limited in my ability to save. It is impossible for me to save quickly enough to obtain the therapy I desperately need which is why I set up this fundraiser.
Closing Words
I want to live. I want to thrive. I want to have a life. I've been so stuck for so very long and I need help to get unstuck. Unfortunately that means quite a lot of money. I hope you can contribute if you have the means. Systems are built to work against us. It is up to us to look after each other.
