Fundraising to help mums and babies in poverty

MammaKind is a baby bank helping mums in poverty to look after their babies and young children through the provision of preloved baby essentials, including clothes, cots, prams, high chairs, nappies, toiletries and much more.

The influx of refugees from Afghanistan, removal of the universal uplift and the ongoing fallout from Covid-19 are all increasing demand for our already stretched service. 

We’re crowdfunding to cover the cost of buying the items we need to ensure the preloved items we provide are fit for purpose. This is largely to buy mattresses for cots, replacement parts for prams and also specialist equipment when required, such as SEN toys, Hallal baby food etc. We may also use this funding to buy toiletries, baby food and other essentials.

So far, we’ve been sourcing moses baskets for refugees from Afghanistan who have babies and are isolating in hotels. This sounds small but ensuring they are clean and fit for purpose, buying mattresses, matching bedding and distributing them is hugely time consuming. We are deeply grateful to have a team of committed volunteers who make this work possible.

As the refugees are given homes throughout London we’ll get requests for the other items they need – we anticipate they’ll require most of the items we stock.
