Help to fund Heallreaf 5 - a biannual UK touring exhibition which showcases the art of modern tapestry weaving.

We're still collecting donations

On the 7th April 2024 we'd raised £2,411 with 49 supporters in 69 days. But as every pound matters, we're continuing to collect donations from supporters.

Heallreaf 5 - can you help?

Heallreaf was originally planned to be a one off tapestry exhibition in 2015, but here we are, with Heallreaf 5 plans in place, venues booked, weavers preparing to submit their work for the jurors to consider - but a lack of funding to support it and enable it to happen as planned. Margaret, the founder and key organiser of Heallreaf, has applied several times over the last year for Arts Council funding, but it has been refused each time. This has been the main source of funding for Heallreaf exhibitions in the past, but, sadly, it hasn't happened for Heallreaf 5.

Thanks to your support Heallreaf 5 is now underway! It opened in the Rose Patterson Gallery at Weston Park on Saturday 29th June and all those who have seen it agree that it is a wonderful exhibition! Do have a look at the Heallreaf website to see photos of all the work, and you can order your Heallreaf 5 catalogue either here or via the website, or buy it when you visit the exhibition. Have a look on social media as well (search for Heallreaf if you don't already follow us), where information about the works along with images are being shared.

Running any exhibition incurs multiple direct and incidental costs - costs which are often absorbed by the volunteers doing the hard work in the background. While the exhibitions are now underway, you can still help to support Heallreaf 5.

Your money will contribute to:

  • the cost of venues, where galleries are charging for space;
  • publicity and marketing, including on social media, so that we get plenty of visitors and can showcase the work of the tapestry weavers involved;
  • costs of exhibition preview events;
  • packaging and transport of the tapestries between venues;
  • travel and accommodation expenses for those helping to hang and take down work at each venue;
  • fees for jurors and the curator, previously agreed when we thought we would get external funding;
  • all those additional incidental costs that go with running an exhibition, including insurance;
  • and, if we get enough money, a contribution to the costs of returning the tapestries to the artists at the end of the run, assuming they haven't sold first!

Your contributions have already supported the production of the catalogue and enabled us to hang the exhibition at its first venue.

In case you wondered, 'we' are a small team of volunteers helping Margaret behind the scenes. We all do what we can, such as setting up crowdfunding pages (!), but sometimes it simply comes down to money...
