Kalika and I often found ourselves in the kitchen, cooking up delicious meals together. However, a recurring issue always frustrated us—our food would get cold before we could finish eating, especially when preparing multiple dishes at once.
One evening, after reheating our meal for the third time in the microwave, we started discussing how much energy was wasted each time. The convenience of the microwave came at the cost of efficiency, and we realized there had to be a better way to keep our food warm.
With our backgrounds in design—myself with a Master’s in Product Design and Kalika with a Master’s in Industrial Design—we knew we had the skills to tackle this problem. We began brainstorming and researching, and soon the idea of using infrared heating technology emerged. We saw that this technology could offer a more energy-efficient solution.
As we delved deeper into our research, we discovered a mind-blowing feature: candle diffusion. We found that when a candle was placed underneath the warmer at its lowest efficiency setting, it would start diffusing without actually lighting a flame. This unique feature not only added an extra layer of functionality but also enhanced the overall experience of using the warmer.
To make our product versatile and adaptable, we included multiple attachments. Our food warmer can be easily hung, clamped onto uneven surfaces, or used as a stationary unit, allowing users to choose the setup that best suits their needs and kitchen space.
After months of development and experimentation, we created an innovative food warmer that used infrared technology to keep meals at the perfect temperature, cutting energy consumption by nearly 40% compared to traditional microwaves. Our design, now enhanced with the candle diffusion feature, not only solved our problem but also catered to both home kitchens and commercial settings. Our journey from kitchen frustration to creating a groundbreaking product highlighted how combining our expertise with innovative features could lead to a truly revolutionary solution.
