About us
Friends of the River Exe are excited that in a year, we’ve grown from 0 to 353 friends of diverse river users - anglers to wild swimmers, artists to ecologists, farmers to scientists. All pledging to clean up the Exe!
BUT...
Our funds have stretch to the end of September - yikes!
With the new government we need to keep rivers firmly on the agenda. We hope to run a Campaign Action week at the end of September to get the message across. Can you help us do this?
What we've done so far
Our river community set our agenda on how to clean up the Exe at 6 'River Conversation' events where we drew on the expertise of guest speakers and wise guidance of our partners Sustainable Tiverton, Wild Tiverton CIC, Transition Exeter, Transition Exmouth, Westcountry Rivers Trust (WRT) and Tidelines.
Citizen science
Our citizen scientists are trained thanks to WRT and our existing testers.
They're now generating river quality data with their test kits thanks to Sea-Changers - at Tiverton, Exeter, Lympstone and Exmouth.
Campaigns
Our campaigners have lead actions with Surfers Against Sewage, XR and other local campaigners to highlight local sewage overflows into the Exe.
Festival
Our festival organisers and volunteers pulled off the first ever Festival of the Exe in the week of World Rivers Day.
What we want to do next
With your help we can make our grassroots actions a reality this election year to bring about change! We're focussing on actions around rivers at the end of September which will include celebrating our wonderful Exe and an Assembly for River Species.
We welcome any donation you may feel able to make, large or small.
Thank you for reading this far!
