Over the years, Friends of the School (FOTs) has focused on several important initiatives, supporting extracurricular programs to enrich the experience and advance the development of the pupils attending St Mary Bourne Primary School (SMB).
SMB relies on FOTs to fund doodle maths, purple mash, book bags, homework diaries, class Christmas presents, and music. It also funds specific requests from the school for random things such as drills, fire doors, or the recent request for music score sheets, etc.
In the longer term, the school is looking to redo the hall floor, replace books, and replace the Astro turf (green pitch—for sports when the field is waterlogged).
Parents are so generous in doing Amazon wish lists, baking cakes and supporting events. These raise money but they also bring us together in real life - outside of the WhatsApp groups!
However, we know everyone’s busy. Keeping up with what’s on when, and turning up, can be hard.
As an alternative for parents who are time-poor and find it hard to take part in FOTs activities, we wondered if a direct debit could be a good way to contribute to our initiatives - nothing huge, whatever you can afford every month. Sign up once, and it’s a win-win for you and the school.
Think about it like this - consider swapping one thing per month that you spend money on out and about… or match it! This really will be doing wonders for the brilliant teachers and students of SMB.

- Do you have Grandparents or neighbours able to help out? Please share this far and wide to encourage others to join!
- We’re launching this on #GivingTuesday. It’s gimmicky, sure, but also a good time ahead of the mad consumerism of #blackfriday and Christmas to consider giving back in a meaningful way to your community.
