We are looking to add a beginners section and a spectators area. This will encourage parents and users to gain confidence and skills, which will benefit their physical and mental well-being, as well as a safe and fun environment to interact with people of all ages and abilities. We have a local community of people, children and adults, the local town council and the county council supporting us. We originally formed 'friends of cardigan skatepark' to save the park from demolition. We have tried to create a safe, inclusive space, where people can enjoy and learn/develop new skills, whilst also helping to prevent anti-social behaviour in the community.
This is with the aim of growing the community, specifically, children of all ages, as well as, girls, non binary/ binary, minorities and economically challenged families, regardless of gender, sexuality, ethnic background and religious beliefs. One of our main aims is to use the planned extension to encourage parents and children to live a healthier lifestyle through activity and play. Until recent years, skate, scooter & Bmx have always been thought of as 'alternative' sports and places to practice have always been few and far between. We have seen a boom over the last few years of facilities being created in bigger towns and cities, but they are usually aimed at users of all ages, which can sometimes be discouraging for younger users who might feel intimidated by the adults or advanced users, as well as, the parents who would sometimes avoid skateparks due to their overall reputation for anti-social behaviour.
