I sponsored Roman’s resettlement under a Scottish Gov scheme. I sent his travel costs via a Money Travel company which duly transferred €300 into his account. The next day the company recalled the transfer on the grounds of fraud. They would not discuss the reason, but withdrew the allegation. I wrote to Roman's Bank in Kyiv to explain what we were trying to do in good faith. As he was about to fly, he left his hostel accommodation and lost his job. Then came trouble - he was assaulted and robbed in the street. It was not long before he was arrested for a fatal attack on a drunk. However, in court a witness had a video which clearly showed the police officers assaulting the drunk. After the court, he was again assaulted and this time was moved to a Polish hospital with multiple stab wounds. He was befriended by a senior Polish police officer who obtained travel docs and passport in a polish name. Roman was put on a Witness Protec tion scheme and given “safe” accommodation. It has now been established that he was scammed. He swiftly left the hospital and fled to be close to the German Border. He was befriended by a family who arranged for him tio get to Germany where he reported to the British Consul. The whole story was revealed and he was put into a refugee camp whilst German lawyers made enquiries. Every thing has been completed except for German citizenship. I have spent a lot of money supporting Roman but am unable to find the funds for the German paper work and air fare to the UK When Roman arrives here, I will accommodate him in my house, and with the help of the authorities get the paper work to allow him to work here. I do not envisage any work problem as in this area there is a general man-power shortage. I write to you in the hope that funds can be raised to get this man to Scotland, after 13 months of pure hell. Thank you.
