Fresh Charity offers support, skills and volunteering projects for young people in the UK & overseas. We aim to level the playing field for those with a rough start; a disrupted home life, bullying, abuse, poverty, disability of themselves or a family member. We support young people to change their trajectory and use recovery from adversity to spur them on to great things. We believe that with the right support, challenges don’t have to hold you back. Fresh Charity offers support, skills and volunteering projects for young people in the UK & overseas.
Our story
Fresh Charity was set up in 2009 to help children and young people in vulnerable situations, and registered as a charity in 2012. We offer emotional support, skills and volunteering projects. We aim to level the playing field for those with a rough start; a disrupted home life, bullying, abuse, poverty, disability of themselves or a family member. We support young people to change their trajectory and use recovery from adversity to spur them on to great things. We believe that with the right support, challenges don’t have to hold you back.
Our projects
We offer volunteering placements for young people and those who have disabilities or mental health difficulties. Our current UK placements operate within Pause Cat Cafe in Bournemouth, where we support 60 volunteers. There is a waiting list for more volunteers who have specific needs meaning that they need a support worker to work with them.
Our main project here in the UK is providing training placements for young people at Pause Cat Cafe in Bournemouth. Through these we have helped hundreds of young people, many of whom with physical disabilities, sensory limitations, emotional and mood disorders, autism, depression and anxiety. We found that through engaging in learning new skills, they experience an increase in self esteem and find a sense of purpose that drives them forwards with enthusiasm.
Our charity also supports children and young people via international projects and volunteer trips. We are partnered with The Caleb Centre for children with autism in Zambia, and our volunteers visited them last year to support the school.
The growth and change in an individual's confidence, skills and abilities mean more than us to stats, but we measure the figures too! We have worked with hundreds of children and young people worldwide and we are proud of everyone for how far they have come.
Our beneficiaries
Mary Wambui
Mary grew up in our children’s home in Kenya after she and her little brother Robert were abandoned at the ages of just 7 and 3 years old. Mary has always worked hard in school and got very good grades. We supported Mary through school and now at Jomo Kenyatta University where she is studying Community Development and Environment. She chose this course because her goal is to help other children who have troubled upbringings, to make their future bright.
Naomi
Naomi started volunteering at Pause Cat Cafe and she was very shy and not very confident in her abilities. Over time, with patient guidance, she has become independent at working and does not let her learning disability hold her back from being excellent at her work. She gets a lot of enjoyment and self-esteem from helping in the cafe and finds the environment calming for her anxiety.
Your donation will allow us to continue helping more people like Mary and Naomi.
