Anyone who has ever lived in another country knows how important it is to be able to communicate easily and how distressing it is if you cannot make yourself understood or comprehend what is going on around you. Waterbeach is well known as a fabulous, welcoming community. We are inviting the community to come together to help refugees from Ukraine currently living in Waterbeach, many of whom are struggling to find the suitable ESOL lessons they desperately need.
A Learning Place (ALP) is inviting local businesses, community groups and individuals to sign up to "sponsor a lesson". Each lesson costs £60 to run; please see our website for more information: www.alearningplace.co.uk/english-lessons.
The small group lessons run in a central venue in Waterbeach and will be taught by our qualified and experienced teachers. There will be no charge for the lessons.
All sponsors (unless you choose to be anonymous) will receive a "proudly supporting local English lessons" window sticker. Participating businesses and community groups will be given advertising opportunities and will be thanked in publicity we produce.
ALP is a local Alternative Education provider and we are delighted to be able to facilitate these free lessons. We will not be making a profit and will be giving our time for free. Donated funds will pay our teachers and cover refreshments and lesson materials. St John' Church is kindly providing a free venue.
We will also be putting some donations into our hardship fund for learners in need- a number have experienced issues with accommodation or travel.
In the unlikely event that we have surplus funds, we will use it to fund other non-profit language support for Ukrainians or, if that is not possible, offer it to other projects supporting Ukrainians in the UK.
