Friends of Wharfedale Greenway is a community group founded in 2021 and dedicated to supporting the creation of a traffic-free shared path between Ilkley and Pool, and possibly further! We want to see construction of the route starting within the next five years. This has been a longstanding but glacially slow project, so our role is to support all local councils along the route with route planning and feasibility work, as well as carrying on with public and political awareness and engagement.
You can see our website at friendsofwharfedalegreenway.org.uk
In 2025, we will continue to make the case for the Wharfedale Greenway, develop the route plan, and lobby Leeds and Bradford Councils and West Yorkshire Combined Authority to have the Greenway included in Local Plans and pipeline for schemes. We will assess the current status of work on the route, review existing feasibility studies, and aim to produce a Strategic Outline Case. Establishing sources of funding for construction is also a key aim.
We will also be doing practical volunteering - improving sections of existing paths on the line of the route with works such as vegetation clearance and drainage improvements.
All our work has been supported by volunteers, so your funds are of great help for our ongoing running costs, and there is potential for us to commission detailed technical work. Thank you.
