To raise funds to have URGENT Ankle surgery, operation called SPLATT after suffering 2 Strokes at age 8 & 9. This is to help ease pain

by Adam Fontain in Basildon, England, United Kingdom

Hello, my name is Adam Fontain, I am in need of an URGENT operation on my Ankle as I have a condition called Drop foot to suffering 2 strokes when I was 8 & 9yrs old. I am now 34yrs old and need an Operation on my ankle that is called SPLATT, or Split Tibialis Anterior Tendon Transfer, I have seen a Consultant privately for a consultation, and he has told me I would be the YOUNGEST STROKE SURVIVOR he would be doing this operation on but also the LONGEST SURVIVING STROKE SURVIVOR, unfortunately to get this operation done on the NHS at the moment, I am looking at waiting over a YEAR to EIGHTEEN MTHS, as I am in lot of pain with my leg and ankle and is also affecting my day to day life, and work, with the encouragement of friends and family, I have opted to share my Story and swallow my PRIDE as I cannot wait that long and see if I can raise some money towards operation, My Story is below

I am a former PARALYMPIAN that competed in the LONDON 2012 PARALYMPICS, as a SH2 10mtr Air Rifle Shooter, and competed around the world in International competitions, and also at National level at Bisley Shooting Centre in Surrey, for Team GB. At the age of 8 & 9 respectively I suffered two strokes caused by an Aneurysm of the brain this has left me with a Left sided Hemiplegia, I made a full recovery after the first Stroke, then 10 mths later I suffered  a more severe bleed on the brain, I was in intensive care for 8 weeks and after that a further 2 mths in hospital, my family were told that I would probably never lead a normal life i.e, walk, go to school, but through help from family and great Phsyiotherapist's and Occupational Therapist's at my local hospital, I made the best recovery that I could, I was in a wheelchair for about 18mths after coming out of hospital, I cannot use my left arm and have to wear a leg splint on my left leg to help me walk and not fall over, this is at times very uncomfortable to wear, and at times can hurt my leg, I went back to school and also went to the local Comprehensive, then at the age of 12yrs I joined a local Disabled sports club, where I tried a variety of sports and found that I enjoyed Shooting, and had equipment adapted for me to use.

I did Shooting for 15yrs and then retired and got myself a job at Amazon where I have worked for the last 7yrs,

Thankyou for taking the time to read my story

ADAM
