Could you go on a reality dating show? What if it was as a joke?
Could you and your friends convince them that you’re cool and marketable? What if you and your friends are completely useless?
Could you be honest with yourself about how much you want the attention? What if, regardless of the answer, you can’t stop seeking it out?
This is the true story of two 'friends' who fell in love in front of the nation. But their televised romance is exactly like Romeo and Juliet's – it’s entirely fictional. Can they keep a handle on the lie or will reality slip from their grasp?
Who are we?
Anoushay and Elena went through mortal peril and came out of it together. Then they made a play.
Anoushay, a finalist of the 2025 Chortle Student Comedy Awards, wrote, directed, produced, and starred in the original iteration of For The Plot in 2022. Elena stage managed the play before going on to work in theatre production.
We have worked closely together on a huge array of creative projects since we were 18, care fiercely about each other and the production, and simultaneously make each other better and worse as people. We are incredibly excited to embark on our biggest endeavour yet.
What is For The Plot?
For The Plot is the story of polar-opposite friends who fall in love on national television despite all the odds. They definitely have chemistry, they definitely have the social skills to charm the nation, and this is definitely not a carefully engineered plan to scam their way onto your screen. Their friends, enemies, and love interests (all of whom are obviously very competent) are definitely NOT helping to market them into a space that was never for people like them, and you absolutely, positively, definitely will not watch the scheme threaten to completely unravel before your eyes.
Why does this play deserve to come to life?
For The Plot is a uniquely light-hearted depiction of what it is like to pursue the spotlight without fitting into its mold, and aims to dismantle that mold through its disarming humour. In a world longing to be viewed, For The Plot asks if any of us are above the need for attention and success, with a hilarious and vibrant wit. In supporting this play, you are helping to create a space for original writing and up-and-coming creative talent in a notoriously impenetrable industry.
Where will the money go?
We have secured a place at Greenside George Street, 17.30, for the 18th-23rd of August. We are fundraising primarily to cover the remainder of our venue costs (£836), and our marketing costs (~£300). Any additional money on top of this will be put towards our accommodation and travel costs, supporting company members who do not have the background or capacity to self-fund.
We are so grateful for any donation, however big or small. Thank you for helping us bring this story to life.
