I am one of five grandchildren deeply affected by losing of our little Nan in front of our eyes and late Grandad. Our Grandad was a dedicated worker who built his own business and home, and even in retirement, he sought knowledge through various courses like IT and English literature. He took immense pride in his home, maintaining it with care. We had so many happy memories there, ones we will cherish forever.
Sadly, we lost our beloved Grandad last year to dementia, leaving our fragile Nan alone. He battled this cruel disease for four years, and it was heart-wrenching to watch it take him from us. Shortly after his passing, we noticed a frightening decline in our Nan’s memory, which made us fear the worst. After seeking medical advice, we learned that our fears were confirmed: she too had dementia. It felt like we were losing our Grandad all over again, and now we face the heartbreaking reality of watching our Nan succumb to the same fate. Dementia is truly a devastating affliction.
Our Nan quickly lost her independence but was reluctant to leave the home she cherished. Unfortunately, due to safety concerns, she was moved into a care home for her protection. The situation has become dire as she must fund her care entirely on her own, leaving us with no choice but to sell the home that belonged to her and Grandad. The thought of losing their home is utterly heartbreaking.
We are reaching out for help because we desperately want to keep their home in our family. This place was their pride and joy, the result of a lifetime of hard work. We cannot bear the thought of losing it on top of everything else we've endured.
Please, help us keep our grandparents’ home in the family and the crippling costs of care home fees.
Thank you.
