THE FILM-
Florence is an emotionally charged film about uncovering the untold stories of history, and the timeless power of love to shape and change our lives, no matter the generation.
When 30-year-old Georgina is clearing her great-grandmothers attic after her passing, she stumbles upon a dusty box filled with journals, letters and photographs from World War II. Fascinated by the glimpse into her family’s past, Georgina begins reading her great-grandmothers Evelyn’s diaries, initially expecting tales of wartime sacrifice and survival. But what she uncovers is far more profound and unexpected.
As Georgina dives deeper into Evelyn’s entries, she discovers a secret that her great grandmother had long kept hidden: Evelyn, a seemingly ordinary young lady living in the countryside of England, was part of a passionate, forbidden love affair with another woman, Florence. Their relationship, rife with the challenges of wartime secrecy and fear of societal rejection, unfolds through the vivid, intimate words Evelyn left behind.
DIRECTOR STATEMENT-
The idea first came to me when a friend suggested I merge two important things to me, History and LGBTQ+ representation. After doing my research I soon found that there weren’t many films out there that told stories like the one I wanted to tell. From that moment I knew just how important it was to tell this story to the best of my ability. I have an incredible team working with me behind the scenes to bring this story to the screen and for all of us it is important to tell this story to the highest standard possible.
