Aim: This project aims to provide an immersive and historically accurate medieval setting to provide hands-on learning.
I am a recent PhD graduate of Durham University's Department of Archaeology. I am passionate about offering immersive experiences for the public and school groups to engage with history through experimental archaeology. It seems that people have the most fun learning when they can actually participate in historical techniques and crafts, and this also provides fun memories and a lasting impression. With the rising popularity of immersive tourism experiences, I aim to use medieval techniques to create a small, historically-accurate medieval village which will also serve as a site for educational workshops. Members of the public will be able to participate in constructing this site, fostering a community engaged with heritage, using historic and environmentally conscious methodologies.
This non-profit organisation is currently underway to becoming a registered charity and is in the process of raising funds to start running. Any funds received will partly go towards paying 1 staff member (myself) a small salary so that I will be able to create social media content, advertise, host meetings, and get underway towards making this dream become a reality. The remainder of the funds will go towards contractors, landscaping, and building materials to start offering events and workshops for the public to get involved with.
