Emerge Worldwide is a humanitarian organisation that helps those suffering trauma, on the run, and who are victims of sexual exploitation and sex trafficking. We are based in Croydon and made up of volunteers and professionals from counsellors, to teachers and trainers, to pastors, mental health professionals, international women’s speakers, to advocates and other women and girls who are fighting against Sexual exploitation (SE) and sex trafficking (ST).

Sexual Exploitation

Sexual exploitation is the abuse of a position, vulnerability, power or trust for sexual purposes and monetary gain. 

Sex Trafficking

Is human trafficking for the purpose of sexual exploitation and sex slavery.

Why it's important

49.6 MILLION people were in modern slavery. That's more than the transatlantic slave trade.

136,000 people in the UK are living in modern slavery (global index 2018). 

90% of sexually exploited victims in London are female (National Referral Mechanism 2020).

182 recorded offences in Croydon 2020 – highest of all boroughs (Met Police 2020).  

Our Goals

We have several goals (see below) this crowdfunding project will not only support these goals, but ultimately help us have a 24 hr one-stop centre in various boroughs with a hotline service.

Emerge Worldwide goals:-

1. Train up people who understand the signs of exploitation

We currently offer training to the police and community groups.

2. Run a national awareness event annually 

3. Work with survivors in our advice clinic offering counselling and empowerment   

4. Run several successful campaigns that promote the cause  

5. Provide the systems of support for survivors and collaborate with partners

6. Raise community champions and advocates for the cause   

7. Create community structures that make reporting easy    

8. Have a strong outreach presence in boroughs across the UK 

9. Lead national campaigns against GBV, SE and ST

Outreach

Outreach involves seeking out those who are being exploited in the commercial sex trade, and helping them to find a way out. Our outreach team also act as the first point of contact in the community, for those who want to escape or report exploitation. We also work with victims of online exploitation.

The truth is that sexual exploitation and trafficking usually goes unseen, but exploiters always prey on the most vulnerable. Such as young girls and teenagers, those in care, students at university, immigrants, and girls used as mules in gangs.

By supporting this campaign we can give women and girls the confidence to confide in us, build and train a community to support them and create a safe place for them to be.  This Crowdfunding campaign will make an important contribution. If we hit our funding target, we can make an impact supporting vulnerable women and girls.
